OneNote UI Toolkit
I designed and maintained the UI toolkit and design system for OneNote across mobile, web, and desktop — three platforms with different conventions, one product that had to feel like itself on all of them.
The problem
Cross-platform consistency, adoption, and scale all pulling against each other. OneNote had to respect the native conventions of each platform while still reading as one coherent product. And a toolkit only works if people actually use it — which means the documentation has to be precise enough that implementing it correctly is easier than improvising.
The process
I built and maintained the toolkit in Sketch, Figma, and InVision, and produced the connective tissue that makes a system usable in practice: redlines, icons, and dev-ready UI assets. A lot of the work was less about designing new components than about removing every reason someone might have to go around the system.
